Unilever's Treschow to talk with investors before change
(Reuters) - Treschow took over on Wednesday as the Anglo-Dutch company's first chairman to come from outside the company in its 77-year history and said he saw no need to split the group between its food business and its detergents, shampoo and deodorants side.
"We are a fast-moving consumer goods company so we also hope that we are fast moving ourselves. I will listen to what investors have to say carefully," he said after the Unilever Plc annual general meeting held in London.

Oil Declines on Signs Gasoline Supplies May Rise; Nigerian Protest Ends
(Bloomberg) -- Crude oil fell after U.S. gasoline supplies rose and a report that protesters in Nigeria left a facility run by Royal Dutch Shell Plc.
Gasoline inventories rose 1.76 million barrels to 195.2 million barrels last week, the Energy Department report showed. The protesters will let Shell open the facility and restore lost output amounting to 170,000 barrels a day, Reuters reported. Shell yesterday said deliveries in May and June would be delayed because of the incident.

(Bloomberg) -- Mexico's peso rose to a four-month high after a U.S. report bolstered optimism that consumer demand for Mexican exports will buttress dollar inflows.
Mexico's currency snapped two days of declines after U.S. government figures showed industrial production increased more than forecast last month following a decline in March. The U.S. purchases about 80 percent of Mexican exports.

BNP Paribas Hires U.S. Treasury Bond Trader Rick Klingman From ABN Amro
(Bloomberg) -- BNP Paribas Securities Corp., a unit of the largest French bank, hired Richard Klingman from ABN Amro Bank NV for its U.S. government bond trading desk in New York.
Klingman, 40, started this week and is trading five-year Treasury notes, said Laurent Dulout, co-head of core rates trading. He reports to Jeffry Feigenwinter, who trades 10-year notes and is head of Treasury trading. Both have been in the business since 1988.

(Bloomberg) -- Gold and silver fell in New York as a gain in the value of the dollar against the euro reduced the appeal of the precious metals as alternative investments.
Gold has moved in tandem with the euro 74 percent of the time in the past year, Bloomberg data show. Gold reached an 11-month high on April 20 as the euro was headed toward an April 27 record against the dollar. Before today, the metal has climbed 5.7 percent this year while the euro has gained 3 percent against the dollar.

(Bloomberg) -- Copper declined in New York on speculation that demand may slow in China, the world's biggest consumer of the metal used in pipes and wires.
Chinese imports in April fell to 304,672 metric tons from a record 307,740 tons in March. Inventories monitored by the Shanghai Futures Exchange gained 26 percent last week to 85,269 tons, the highest in three years. China's consumption of raw materials had driven a 23 percent rally in copper this year.

(Bloomberg) -- Investors this month were the most optimistic on earnings in a year after companies reported profit that topped analysts' estimates and the outlook for economic growth improved, a Merrill Lynch & Co. survey showed.
Money managers were the most ``overweight'' European stocks since 2000, according to 201 respondents who together manage $586 billion. An overweight holding indicates investors own more of the shares than are represented in benchmarks.

(Reuters) - The real estate and property services company earned a net profit of $2.3 million, or 6 cents a share, down from a profit of $36 million, or $1.18 a share, in the year ago period.

(Reuters) - The paper, citing a letter sent by AFL-CIO, the 10 million strong labour group, said the union had written to the Securities Exchange Commission arguing that Blackstone's [BG.UL] IPO falls foul of U.S. laws and should be investigated.
The union says that the unique structure chosen by Blackstone's senior executives to raise funds from stock markets while keeping a tight grip on the running of its business is an attempt "to evade the coverage" of the Investment Company Act of 1940.

(Bloomberg) -- World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz has lost the institution's trust and should not remain in his post following an investigation that found he violated conflict-of- interest rules, South African Finance Minister Trevor Manuel said.
``There should be a parting of the ways,'' Manuel said in an interview in Shanghai, where he is attending the annual general meeting of the African Development Bank. ``I think we must live with the decision by the executive board. It's unfortunate but c'est la vie.''

FDA food safety plan got cold reception: WSJ

Alon USA Energy Will Shut Down Unit Today at Refinery in Big Spring, Texas
(Bloomberg) -- Alon USA Energy Inc. will shut a unit at its oil refinery in Big Spring, Texas, after a malfunction. The unit will be halted at 7 a.m. local time today.
The Dallas-based company reported the incident in a filing on the Web site of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Alon said it needed to shut the unit to repair a leak in a re-boiler and to repair a steam leak in the steam supply to the re-boiler.
