(Reuters) - The European Union and Algeria struck a deal on gas contracts between the 27-member bloc and state energy company Sonatrach which the EU executive said would help to create a single EU-wide gas market.
"The agreement reached constitutes a major breakthrough in our relations with one of Europe's most important suppliers for natural gas and eliminates an important obstacle for the creation of a single EU-wide market in gas," Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said on Wednesday.
